Housing transaction – lawyer helps with buying and selling a home

Vuokra-asunnon kaupassa lakimies on harvoin tarpeen.

A housing transaction is often life's largest single transaction. Lakiasiaintoimisto A&Co. Legal Oy helps with housing transactions – both on the buyer's and seller's side. Our lawyers review the purchase agreement, ensure the disclosure obligation is met and protect your interests. A properly handled housing transaction is a safe transaction for both parties.

Detailed explanation

How does a housing transaction proceed?

In a housing transaction, the purchase price, terms and transfer date are agreed. The purchase agreement must be in writing and signed. Ownership of the home transfers when the purchase price is paid and ownership is registered. Housing transactions involve the seller's disclosure obligation – the seller must disclose matters about the home that may affect the buyer's decision.

Buyer's rights and seller's liability

The buyer has the right to receive a home that matches what was agreed in the purchase agreement. The seller is responsible for the condition and freedom from defects of the home. If the home has a defect, the buyer can demand a price reduction, cancellation of the transaction or damages. The seller must also fulfil the disclosure obligation – they must disclose information about the home honestly and completely.

Reviewing the purchase agreement

The purchase agreement is the most important document in a housing transaction. It must specify the home's details, purchase price, payment terms, transfer date and any conditions. The lawyer reviews the purchase agreement and ensures it protects your interests. Especially the buyer should have a lawyer review the purchase agreement before signing.
